Julio Gaeta

Julio Gaeta

Julio Gaeta has a PhD in Theory, History and Architecture Criticism from the Federal University of Porto Alegre, Brazil, and is a licensed architect from the Faculty of Architecture in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Since 1985, he combines his professional practice with academia, working as an architect, professor and researcher focusing on architecture and the city.

In 1991, he founded ELARQA, a research center and publishing house writing on topics related to architecture and the city. Through ELARQA, he has written and edited over a hundred texts about architecture and urban topics.

He is a member and Artistic Creator of the FONCA-CONCACULTA—the Mexican National System of Artistic Creators—, receiving a four-year grant in 2007 and a three-year grant in 2011.

He is Mexico’s Academic Director in Future City Managers and 21st Century Housing Laboratory, joint programs between the Iberoamerican University and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

Luby Springall

Luby Springall

Luby Springall is a licensed architect by the Ibero-American University in Mexico and an artist with postgraduate studies by the Royal College of Art in London.

She begins teaching Architecture in 1987 as part of the Ibero-American University’s project cycle. From 2007 to 2011, she coordinated a vertical project in this cycle. From 1990 to 2004, she was Partner at Springall + Lira. In 1998, she is awarded the Silver Medal at the 5th Mexican Architecture Biennial for the CIDE building (Center for Research and Teaching in Economics) in Mexico City. That same year, she was finalist at the 2nd Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture in Spain and was awarded an Honorable Mention at the 11th Quito Architecture Biennial. She is a founder and director of ELARQA MX, an architecture magazine and publishing house, as well as a founder of Gaeta-Springall Architects (2004).

Her work is published in numerous international publications, such as: 10 x 10Phaidon (United Kingdom), Summa+ (Argentina), Casabella (Italy), Praxis (United States), 2G (Spain), and Arquine (Mexico). Her works have been exhibited in Mexico, Spain, Israel, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Rome and Berlin. In 2010, she curated the ARCH-MX2010 Exhibition on Mexican Contemporary Architecture in Melbourne, Australia.

As an artist, she has shown her work in many exhibitions in Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom. In 2003, she was awarded a FONCA-CONACULTA artistic residence at the Banff Center for the Arts in Canada.
